Los Angeles County has been inflicted with over two years of terrible Public Health policies - shutdowns that destroyed business, school closures that harmed children, vaccine mandates that violated bodily autonomy, worthless mask mandates that did nothing to stop the spread, and a non-stop drumbeat of fear and authoritarian policies that, in total, did nothing to make Los Angeles citizens safer, but instead caused massive downstream implications including crime, drug use, missed medical appointments, widespread mental distress, and a tremendous loss of faith in our public officials.
Barbara Ferrer, as director of the LA County Department of Public Health, has consistently refused to balance the harms and risks of her policies, particularly how they impact children. She has demonstrated a complete inability to present data fairly, to respect citizens' rights, or to develop a long-term strategy to deal with an endemic virus.
Above all else, her repressive efforts have been pointless: LA County's age-adjusted COVID mortality rate is 296/100k (per LACDPH website), Florida's is 276 per 100k. So all the school closures, business restrictions, all the FEAR - bought us no additional protection from the very real ravages of the virus.
Barbara Ferrer must be fired by the LA County Board of Supervisors, and this video campaign aims to educate LA residents exactly who she is and what she's done to this great city through a series of compelling, entertaining, shareable videos.
WHO I AM: While my background is writing/directing television comedy (credits here: imdb.me/rossnovie), I was part of the grassroots efforts to reopen LA schools in 2021 by founding the LA Uprising (lauprising.com) to remove Superintendent Austin Beutner from his position. Twitter/Instagram engagement can only go so far - to push the battle forward, we need to entertain and educate fellow citizens and get this woefully incompetent public health official out of office.
WHAT THE MONEY IS FOR: All of the money will be used for the production of episodes of "Barbara Ferrer: Behind the Mask," most of which will spent on the creation of a photo-realistic Barbara Ferrer mask, designed by a top spfx house here in Los Angeles. The mask will allow us to do a series of shorts starring what seems to be the actual Barbara Ferrer, out and about in LA. We expect these videos to be wild, shareable, attention-grabbing clips that will hopefully get more people talking about how to remove her from office. No money will go to me for time/work spent on this project.
