Hello friends, Please send a critical e-mail TODAY to support the Puente Hills Landfill Park Master Plan. Today is the LAST DAY for public comment on the draft Environmental Impact Report. The County takes these comments very seriously and needs to hear from people who want the park. If you can write on behalf of your organization, even better. WHY THIS MATTERS Unfortunately, the Environmental Impact Report comment period tends to receive only the negative commenters who oppose a project. The “Park for All” vision for the Puente Hills Landfill Park Master Plan will be an tremendous addition to the public park landscape and deserves outspoken support. Although this project has challenges due to the landfill site, hundreds of landfill parks have been safely created across the world and have become beloved destinations. The County of Los Angeles is committed to providing safe recreational space that serves everyone. If the political decision-makers only hear from the negative, uninformed critics, it is possible that all our hard work shaping a far-reaching vision with the community will be lost. A STUNNING HILLTOP DESTINATION The proposed 142-acre park will be the largest new regional park in Los Angeles County, creating a stunning hilltop destination centered in the San Gabriel Valley. The long-range “Park for All” vision will make it a “Gateway to Nature for Diverse Audiences” for all ages, abilities and interests, offering diverse, healthy, passive and active recreational experiences and programming. The park will encourage families and fitness enthusiasts to get up and get moving whether hiking or mountain biking on one of the trails, destressing with a yoga class or reflecting atop the scenic panorama overlooking the San Gabriel Mountains. Additional features will include an outdoor performance area, nature play area for children, a dog park, picnic areas, bike skills area, scenic overlooks, bird watching and wildlife habitat enhancement. A proposed trail lift will allow all visitors, especially those with mobility difficulties, to ascend 760 feet to the highest point in the park. The park will also have nature and environmental learning programs that will connect and educate future generations about the park's unique landfill history, nature and environmental features. The park will be a destination for family gatherings, workout fun and community involvement.
