We are blessed to have you as our supporters and to know that you care about our work as much as we do. Your generosity in signing our petition and continuing to support us has helped to ensure that we have been able to continue providing first-class facilities and services in our UK hospital for people with HIV and those that are experiencing homelessness, as well as continuing our work in Kenya and Uganda supporting thousands of children, young people, women and men with HIV clinical services and education.
Right now, our contracts with the NHS expire at the end of March 2022, but the Healthy London Partnership is lobbying hard to try and extend our contract to an annual one as a first step, and after that, into something longer-term. It looks like things may just gradually be turning in our favour, although nothing is yet certain and we may need your support once again, come the Spring.
We still don’t know what the future looks like, but nearly two years ago we were planning to close down and had already issued redundancy notices to some of our staff. Yet we are still here, and your support has been fundamental in demonstrating to those in government and in the higher echelons of the NHS, the will and the need for Mildmay to continue.
We were proud to welcome Sir Martyn Lewis CBE to our panel of illustrious Patrons (including Dame Judi Dench and Sir Cliff Richard OBE) this autumn. He has headed up our winter fundraising campaign (some of you may have received his letter). He is passionate about Mildmay, and he is asking our supporters to donate to our Christmas Appeal: Presents for Patients, as well as the other appeals we are currently running, which include our ongoing Hospital Equipment Fund and our appeal for a new ‘Tuk-tuk’ emergency ambulance for our projects on the remote Mageta Island in Lake Victoria, Kenya.
We wish you all a safe and peaceful Christmas and hope for a brighter New Year for everyone when we look forward to updating you once again.
