Hello everyone and thanks for your support. We are now getting the message out about this scandal across the borough. This petition is a great way to focus local and wider awareness BUT on its own it will not force Waltham Forest council to take action. We have been told by MPs that the most effective way to make the local authority respond is via formal approaches by Waltham Forest residents to their ward councillors. There are 60 ward councillors in the entire borough. Each resident has 3 ward representatives they can contact. IF you live in Waltham Forest please will you contact your ward councillors before next Tuesday 10th March by following these steps. 1 - create a blank email 2 - in the "TO" box cut and paste:- dcmail@walthamforest.gov.uk, jon.price@walthamforest.gov.uk 3 - Cut and paste the following 5 Planning Committee members to the "CC" box:- Cllr.Stuart.Emmerson@walthamforest.gov.uk, Cllr.jenny.gray@walthamforest.gov.uk, Cllr.karen.bellamy@walthamforest.gov.uk, Cllr.Yemi.Osho@walthamforest.gov.uk, alansiggers@yahoo.co.uk 4 - also cut and paste into the "CC" box:- iancapes@virginmedia.com 5 - use this link http://tinyurl.com/n4amxrw in your web browser to find your 3 ward councillors and their email addresses. Enter your home post code and press enter. [if you find this too difficult then do not give up. Just jump to step 6 and carry on.] 6 - Cut and paste your 3 councillor email addresses into the "CC" box.. 7 - Cut and paste this title into the subject line:- Objection to planning application reference 2014-2399 (141870/FUL) - Waltham Forest Pool & Track rebuild 8 - Now for the email message! Cut and paste the following narrative into the email body:- I object to the plan 2014-2399 (141870/FUL) based on loss of the following existing amenity:- the disability training pool dignity ramp and extended stepped access, the 5m diving platform with its separate deep water diving pit and storage areas for Track equipment. These losses suggest that the current plans have not considered the Equality Act of 2010. The plans also contravene HSE rule HSG179 which does not permit dive boards at the end of a main pool without a solid physical barrier such as a “bulkhead”. The current plans also raise issues with the safeguarding of children at a facility that is to be used by Waltham Forest schools eg) the route between the athletics Track and WC’s and the mixed gender changing village. This project could cement the Olympic Legacy for Waltham Forest and ensure this centre is fit for purpose for both public and organisational usage for the next 50 years. I would hope that this would include not only the replacement of existing facilities but possibly the increase of facilities (such as netball courts). There are sporting facilities within walking distance that are also currently being redeveloped and I’m sure we are all keen to avoid any unnecessary duplication and expense. I am requesting not only that the plans be rejected due to the concerns above, but that a full and meaningful consultation is undertaken with all stakeholders, to include residents, organisations and educational establishments. I am in favour of the redevelopment of Waltham Forest Pool & Track but only if it is undertaken in an inclusive manner with the community.
