Note to Councillors

We continue to receive many objections to the road closures in Lewisham so we have updated the file of these on our web site and sent the following note to the Mayor and all Councillors in Lewisham:

“I thought it was worthwhile to tell you about the continuing opposition to the Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) in Lee Green and other road closures in the borough. The changes made last November have only helped a few people and with schools now reopened and people returning to work the traffic congestion has increased again. Traffic has certainly not “evaporated” as was claimed would happen.

You can see many of the comments we have received in this pdf document on our campaign web site: https://www.freedomfordrivers.org/Lewisham-Comments-Received-2.pdf

I will let them speak for themselves – please read them!  But you don’t have to read many to see why the people of Lewisham hate the road closures.

We will be continuing with our campaign against these irrational and unnecessary road closures which have still not been subject to a proper public consultation. We suggest that Lewisham Council needs to reconsider how to reduce traffic and listen to the people rather than continue with the ill-advised dogma currently being pursued”.

Catford Candidate Opposes “Labour’s Loony Roadblocks”

The Conservative Party have put forward Favour Obi as their candidate in the Catford bye-election for the position of Councillor (4 Councillors need to elected in May). They have published a leaflet that spells out her views on the LTNs. It says this: “There’s no clearer example of Lewisham Labour just not listening. They’ve increased congestion and pollution in Catford and put lives at risk by delaying emergency services, while blaming everyone else for what they’ve done. I’d clear every roadblock until there’s been proper consultation”.

Surely a candidate to vote for if you wish to make it clear to other Lewisham councillors that they need to reconsider their policies.

The Conservatives have also put forward Helena Croft as their candidate for the Sydenham ward. She opposes the restrictions on Bishopsthorpe Road and Silverdale and is calling them to be reversed – see https://www.lewishamconservatives.org.uk/UnblockSydenham

More Activity to Increase Campaign Supporters

We are continuing to increase the number of our supporters and now have over 12,300 people who have signed the petition against road closures – see: http://chng.it/ft4KcrVM . Please continue to spread the word on this petition to your friends and relations.

Now the lock-downs are relaxed and the weather has improved we are delivering more leaflets to local roads in Lewisham. But we do need more volunteers to help with this. Volunteers are much more reliable and effective than commercial leaflet delivery companies, so if you can spare an hour or two to deliver some leaflets in your local roads please contact me on the number below or via this web page: https://www.freedomfordrivers.org/contact.htm
