How Popular are Low Traffic Neighbourhoods?
The ABD has published the results of a survey they did of Lewisham residents on their Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. Some 97% were unhappy with them. See this blog post for a report on the survey and on a paper that shows how LTNs are spreading across London: https://abdlondon.wordpress.com/2020/11/22/how-popular-are-low-traffic-neighbourhoods-ltns/
Lewisham Council Report and Meeting on LTN
Residents of the borough of Lewisham can now read the Council’s own report on the “Temporary Measures to support safer walking and cycling in response to the Covid-10 pandemic “, i.e. on their LTN in Lee Green. It reports how neighbouring areas outside the LTN were experiencing negative impacts with essential journeys taking considerably longer. It mentions the correspondence indicating objections to the scheme and mentions our petition of 11,807 signatures without giving the source.
It understates the opposition and gives no details of the number of objections received (we have submitted an FOI Act request to get the numbers).
It suggests the scheme won’t be reviewed until April 2021, but they will be undertaking a survey in December.
The report will be considered at a meeting of the Scrutiny Business Panel on the 24th November (Tuesday). You can read the report and get details of the meeting here: https://councilmeetings.lewisham.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=121&MId=6060 or go here for how to watch it: https://councilmeetings.lewisham.gov.uk/mgCalendarMonthView.aspx
Funds for Legal Action
One way to stop the proliferation of road closures under the name of “Low Traffic Neighbourhoods” is to mount a legal challenge as politicians who have introduced these schemes or promoted them seem immune to criticism.
We believe there are good grounds for a legal challenge to these measures and have looked at the legal issues in some detail and have taken legal advice already. But now we need to raise funds to launch a challenge at the opportune moment. That is when the temporary measures expire and councils issue more traffic orders.

There is more information on that page about this fund raising.
