A poster opposing the road closures in Lewisham is now available that you can print out and stick in your windows (or if you don’t have a colour printer reply to this email with a postal address and we will send you one).

You can download the poster by clicking here:  https://www.freedomfordrivers.org/Lewisham-Poster.pdf

Ask your neighbours and everyone who opposes the road closures to display it!

Media coverage

There was a very amusing letter published in the last edition of Private Eye. It equated Lewisham to East Berlin in the 1970s. There was also good coverage in the Daily Mail on how eco-obsessed councils, under cover of the Covid epidemic, have spent millions of your money to shut roads across Britain. Mayor Egan’s Comments

These are some comments that Damien Egan has made in letters to complainers: “It is recognised that there may be an appetite amongst communities for some of the measures that are being put in place on an emergency basis to be retained on a more permanent, non-emergency basis. As these measures help to facilitate walking and cycling, this would be in line with the Council’s longer-term policy objectives”. Clearly he, like other councillors, has not yet conceded that there is overwhelming opposition to the road closures.

In addition the latest Council leaflet circulated to residents says “We will be exploring the roll-out of similar traffic reduction measures across the borough this autumn….”. Despite the obvious damage done in Lee Green, they plan to do the same in areas such as Hither Green!

I suggest you send Mayor Egan your own comments. Send to: damien.egan@lewisham.gov.uk

Don’t just accept the road closures – make sure you object!

It’s not too late to get your neighbours, friends, relations and work colleagues to sign the petition. Send them a message containing this link: http://chng.it/f8PH2L2LZq  or simply forward this message.
