Disabled Visitors Denied Access to Museum and Observation Deck Mount Diablo State Park!

We the undersigned urge the California State Parks and Recreations Department to Install a Reliable Elevator for Disabled Visitors to Mount Diablo State Park!

The latest elevator breakdown occurred on March 7, 2018 and it’s still “Out of Service.” On most days, a Disabled Visitor travels to Mount Diablo only to be Denied Access to the 2nd floor Museum and the 3rd floor Observation Deck and the Amazing View of Northern California!

According to State Parks records; over 1,000 Disabled Visitors have been Denied Access to the 2nd Floor Museum and 3rd Floor Observation Deck from April 20, 2015 to December 1, 2018!

In April 2015, the old Elevator was removed and a new Elevator was installed in June 2015. After two years of delay the new Elevator was approved for operation on April 20, 2017.

Unfortunately, the elevator was unreliable! It kept breaking down Trapping Park Staff and Disabled Visitors inside.  On March 7, 2018 Park Staff Officially announced: “Elevator Out of Service !"
