LISD has to file a discipline report with the state every year and those reports are public record; obviously they want their numbers to be low. LISD - 10 to 15 years ago - had a stigma of having really bad students. If you get your discipline numbers on paper to decrease then it looks like you have perfect students when in actuality that's not the case. We know that most of the LISD administration are nothing but a bunch of crooks who will do anything to make the district look good on paper when it's actually falling apart. These issues have to keep being brought to light and I believe I am the first parent who’s been willing to step forward, unafraid to be a voice. If doing the right thing means stepping on a few toes, then this is what I need to do. Do not be afraid as a parent to voice your concerns to your district board member, not that the current board members will listen, but try. If we all stand together we're a force that can shake the whole world. This is a quote we need to believe in. We cannot just trust that our schools are doing the right thing by looking at the numbers. Working in the manufacturing industry for many years we are taught one thing to improve our products, and that is to get rid of unnecessary waste. By getting rid of unnecessary waste, we clean up our work environment and it helps to produce a better product. So by saying this we can call the students our end product, waste being poor administration, poor communication , board members not willing to listen, children that are a discipline problem, and last but not least not giving the teacher’s what they need in order to produce a great product(students). Just like in the manufacturing industry we must eliminate the waste that is causing our good teachers to leave the district on a daily basis, and produce a student to the world that has a great education. We as a district spend money as if it grows on trees, but not for the right reasons. Spend money on the education of the students and their teacher’s needs. Quit hiring consultants who don’t know the district and how it runs. Not one school district runs the same, they all have different needs, but a consultant only comes in and tells you how an industry is supposed to run by a book they have read, and that it must be followed to a “T”. This is not what we need promote within, give the teachers a voice and design a plan that will fit your district. As an Electrical engineer I design many things, but in order to find out if my ideas work I go talk to the people on our line that touch the product every day to let me know if they see any issues with my design. To many times our ESC administration sit in an office looking at numbers to see where we stand in the state, and don’t put their hands on the product and see how our children are being educated, and the real struggles teachers face. Numbers can be manipulated into making anything look great on paper, but to understand what’s really going on you have to come out from behind your desk and see the struggles our education system has. From now on when you believe something is a waste ask “Why” three times if they cannot produce three quality answers then it’s a true waste of money and time.
Thank You,
Jason Bates
