Longview ISD Director of Research, Planning and Accountability Latitia Wilson said after comparing data to the scorecard, "we believe that we are doing extremely well in many categories." "However, there is always a need for improvement," she said. "Longview ISD has enhanced its Curriculum and Instruction Department with the addition of curriculum specialists for grades K-12 in core content areas. We constantly strive to implement our curriculum with fidelity and provide professional training for all staff, according to needs identified by data." So this just in we are passing. That's great, but I don't think This information reflects the true problem in Gregg county we have a 4.4% drop out rate 3.1% of those drop outs com from Longview High School. This may be satisfactory by state standards but it is not what we want. Quality teachers with backing from their administration will solve these issues. Sure we have great facilities, but with out Teachers it is just a building that does nothing for the community. Learning is the key to success. With only teaching students about a single test it takes away from college readiness. Holding students accountable for doing their work and turning it in when due allow a child to understand responsibility. This is something the administration cares nothing about. Our schools are swinging doors, run them through and by all means don't fail them, let them turn in all their work at the end of the six weeks in order to pass. What happened to if you don't turn it in it is a zero? The teachers are not allowed to do their jobs. We need to teach our children how to function in the real world with a quality education so that when they get out its not a surprise how hard life can really be.. Our system has failed by allowing test scores to be more important than a true education. Give our educators the support they need, throw away all your "State tests" and watch the drop out rate go down. By doing this the teachers can really teach our children the things they need in order to live a productive life. This scorecard is not acceptable to me, and it should not be for anyone in this community. Education is more important than a test that shows where we stand in some report.
