Help raise awareness for lobster cruelty in supermarkets
The Issue
Since a young girl, I have noticed the abuse animals are facing within the state of Illinois and I have decided that a change must occur. When walking into a chain supermarket and finding a lobster tank it is quite evident that the lobsters are overcrowded in a small, inhumane space. It is also very unpleasing to watch lobsters as they pile on top of each other trying to escape. Very few stores have taken action on stopping this cruelty yet the majority continue to sell live Nobrand Maine Lobsters. By signing this petition customers will still have the chance to purchase lobster yet the animal will be in a large comfortable setting instead of waiting for their “claws or 'tail-meat' torn off or being boiled alive.” Scientifically “lobsters can live as long as 100 years” and are quite capable of feeling pain and anxiety. With this information, I can’t help but imagine a lobster being in a two-gallon clear tank with ten others feeling anxious waiting out their life sentences. “Lobsters are very sensitive to the quality of water and can die if there is too much waste in it. To prevent the lobsters' excrement from contaminating the tank water with ammonia, merchants will usually not feed the lobsters while they are waiting to be bought. Often lobsters starve or try to eat each other.” I hope you are able to consider my thoughts and beliefs on this and you decide to sign my petition. With enough help, we will be able to stop lobster cruelty in all chain supermarkets.
