Dear Petition Signers,
As you may recall, I have been in communication with the head of Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation (MCWC), Peggy Case. Here is an important message from the MCWC:
Nestle was granted the permit to increase its pumping at the White Pine Springs well to 400 GPM on April 4, 2018. Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation filed a petition for a contested case hearing shortly after. The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians also filed a similar petition the same day and the two cases have been joined by the administrative law judge assigned to the case. This process is a challenge to the permit being heard at the MDEQ. The process is likely to continue into the spring of next year, and it will cost the non-profit MCWC and the tribe a considerable amount of money. However, both groups determined they had to challenge this latest water grab by Nestle. The MCWC is a 501c3 non-profit, so donations are tax deductible.
What you can do: Please go to the MCWC website to consider donating and to get further information (see link below, scroll to bottom of MCWC website to donate). Donations will be allocated to the legal fund to challenge Nestle’s permit. As always, continue to spread the word about this petition, as every signature counts!
