Dear Supporters,
Despite public outcry, the MDEQ has stunned the Michigan community with its approval of Nestle's permit application on Monday, April 2nd.
We must respond with an immediate call-in to the Michigan Department of Enivronmental Quality (MDEQ) to express opposition to their approval of Nestle's permit application. PLEASE call the MDEQ now and follow the procedure below (please keep the call polite and to the point):
1) Call (517)-284-6700, which is the number of the Executive Office of the MDEQ. Either leave a message or ask to be connected to Heidi Grether, the MDEQ Director.
2) Read the following script:
"My name is_______________. I am deeply concerned about MDEQ's recent approval of Nestle’s permit application to increase groundwater pumping to 400 gallons per minute from White Pine Springs Well in Osceola County, Michigan. I believe that Nestle's increased pumping rates are unsustainable and violate reasonable use laws.
I am one of over 82,000 people who have signed a petition to urge the State of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to reject Nestle’s permit application to increase its pumping rates. I demand that the MDEQ reverse its decision by rejecting Nestle's permit application. I also request a comprehensive and independent environmental impact study of Nestle’s current and proposed increased water extraction rates to determine the short-term and long-term effect on creeks, wetlands, streams, species, and the ecosystem. Water is a public right and is Michigan’s most precious resource. Please help us protect it."
I will keep you posted on the next steps we will be taking to oppose Nestle's permit application.
Sincerely,
Yousef Emara
