675 Signatures and Growing: We’re Ready to Bring the Petition to the School Board!

When we launched this petition over the summer, the timing was admittedly not ideal—most families were trying very hard not to think about school! Despite that, we have now reached 675 signatures and counting.
Around the same time, another group of local parents launched Schools Beyond Screens – San Luis Coastal. Our efforts naturally came together, and since then we have joined forces. At the first School Board meeting of the year, 12 parents spoke during public comment, respectfully asking the Board of Trustees to take action on classroom screen time.
Now we’re ready for the next step.
On Tuesday, October 6, we plan to formally submit the petition and its signatures to the SLCUSD Board of Trustees. We are not on the agenda, but we invite you to join us at the beginning of the meeting during public comment.
Join us and make your voice count:
Tuesday, October 6, 2026
6:00 PM
District Multipurpose Room (J2)
1500 Lizzie Street, San Luis Obispo
If you are comfortable speaking, please consider briefly sharing why you signed, what you are seeing with your own children, and what changes you hope the district will consider. Or simply come support the effort—just being there helps show community support.
Can’t attend in person? You can still submit a written public comment by emailing district@slcusd.org. Please use the following subject line: "Public Comment – Board Meeting 10/06/2026".
Stay connected with Schools Beyond Screens
This will likely be our final regular update through Change.org. We’ve heard from several people who are not consistently receiving these updates, and now that our local efforts are combined, we’d rather keep everyone connected in one place.
Please visit Schools Beyond Screens – San Luis Coastal and scroll to the bottom of the page to “Join the Movement on the Central Coast.”
Mark your calendar: School Board Candidate Forum
