For more than 40 years, Formula 1 has been on TV screens across the UK. in 2019 Channel 4 will only be broadcasting the British Grand Prix live, with Sky having exclusive rights to all 21 races on the F1 calendar whilst changing viewers eye watering figures for the privilege. Sky has also imposed caveats that Channel 4's coverage can only contain a maximum of 50% on track action, which drives fans even further away.  

Viewing figures in 2018 across live races broadcast by Channel 4 averaged 2.33 Million viewers compared to Sky TV averaging 653K. 

Five time World Champion Lewis Hamilton has said he doesn't understand the move to pay TV and finds the whole thing "definitely not cool" as well as highlighting the extra expense that a large percentage of fans can't afford in the current climate.

Liberty Media have stated they want to reach out to a "younger, more connected audience" but how can this be done if coverage is reduced to highlights? Something has got to be done to keep more live F1 coverage on Free-to-air TV.
