Protect Immigrant New Yorkers and pass the NY Liberty Act (S4075)!

This petition had 407 supporters

The petition to New York State Senators and Gov. Andrew Cuomo reads:

Support and pass the New York Liberty Act and protect New York residents from Trump's regressive, unjust, and abusive policies.

The State Assembly passed the New York State Liberty Act (S4075) on February 6, 2017, a bill that would strengthen protections for undocumented immigrants and cut off ties between state agencies and federal immigration enforcement. Now it’s in the hands of the Republican-controlled state senate. The Liberty Act Coalition is working hard to make sure the bill moves forward, and Gov. Cuomo keeps his promise to protect immigrants by publicly backing the bill and bringing it out of the Finance Committee to the Senate floor for a vote. Can you add your name today?

Tell New York State Senators and Gov. Cuomo:

Trump’s Department of Homeland Security is targeting almost every single undocumented immigrant in the country for immediate deportation. In recent weeks, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have hunted down and arrested immigrants at their children’s schools, in hospitals and outside places of worship.

New York has the power to slow down Trump’s terrifying deportation force and keep families together. If passed, the New York State Liberty Act would:

- Prevent state agencies from collecting or sharing an individual’s immigration information with federal agencies.
- Prohibit state and local law enforcement from stopping, questioning and arresting a person based on their perceived immigration status.
- Ban state and local resources from being used to aid federal immigration enforcement or to build a national registry based on religion.
- Provide legal counsel to undocumented immigrants facing deportation who cannot afford an attorney.

Gov. Cuomo says he stands with immigrants. Now we must push him to put concrete policies in place to protect them. If we can get the governor to publicly support the bill and bring it out of the Finance Committee to the Senate floor, that will build pressure in the senate and help ensure that these important protections become law.

State senators and Gov. Cuomo have a crucial decision to make: Will they stand against Trump’s destructive agenda or enable it? Speak out now to make sure they do the right thing, support the bill and protect millions of immigrants who call New York home.

Tell New York State Senators and Gov. Cuomo:

Thank you for speaking out.
