Freedom without charges for the artists from “Títeres desde abajo” Last Friday, February 5th, two artists where detained in Madrid, Spain for performing a theater play, wrongly programmed as a family show in a kid friendly time frame. A misunderstanding of it's contents, resulted in some of the parents decontextualizing scenes from the play, which was never intended as a show for kids, as the website of the theater company from Granada specified. In the resulting confusion, some people understood as a justification of terrorism what actually was a scene in which a character in the play was being framed of crimes not committed by fictional corrupt policemen. This has been blown out of proportion by the press, the talk shows and the social networks. As a consequence, two artists from the company where detained for a crime that hasn't been committed by anyone and, last Saturday, February 6th, The Judge Ismael Moreno ordered their imprisonment without bail. The ignorance, misunderstanding or the perverse manipulation of everything in search of hurting the political rivals, can't jeopardize the freedom of speech or the creative freedom. This show should never have been performed for an audience with kids, but any responsibility is that of the people who scheduled it, and not that of the authors or performers of the show. Therefore, they must be freed immediately with no pending charges. Please sign so Culture and Art are not victims of political vindictiveness. Don't teach our kids that whatever we don't like can be punished due to it's different ideology or opinion. Let's defend the Art and Culture, also when we don't like it. Let's defend Freedom.
