Looking for a way for your whole family to THINK GLOBAL and ACT LOCAL? A way to enact tangible change in honor of Earth Day 2022?

Thursday 4/21/2022 4pm, quite ironically the eve of Earth Day 2022, the Los Gatos Union School District board will discuss and vote whether or not to approve the district's latest iteration of its $6 million Playing Fields renovation proposal.

Despite the petition https://www.change.org/NoPlasticTurfLGUSD signed by over 450 so far urging the district and board to keep artificial turf off ALL LGUSD campuses AND despite nearly 80% of the community choosing natural grass fields in the district's recent survey, the district's latest proposal STILL includes two large artificial turf fields, the same number as originally proposed in fall of 2021.  In this latest version of the proposal, the plastic fields have landed at Daves Avenue Elementary and Fisher Middle School.

Come out Thursday 4/21/2022 4pm to the LGUSD board meeting at Blossom Hill Elementary (16400 Blossom Hill Rd) prepared to share an up-to-3-minute public comment during agenda item E2 or just come on out to support those who do. This is a public meeting. It is IN-PERSON-ONLY.  Anyone can attend. Anyone can comment. Including youth. Please attend and urge LGUSD to do better for our kids and our Earth.  Agenda at https://bit.ly/421agenda

No need to settle for any fields of plastic.

No need to settle for compromises or hybrid designs.

Installing fields of plastic is completely unnecessary. Let's not take unnecessary risks with our kids or our ecosystems.

Safe, level, non-muddy, drought-tolerant natural grass fields adequately-available for school and community use *ARE* a feasible and cost-effective option for all fields of ALL 5 of our schools.

Urge LGUSD to step up and source the necessary expertise to manage natural grass fields properly.

Government agencies, experts, and organizations have offered plenty of input on the subject of artificial turf, many reaching out directly to the LGUSD board.  Find an updated compendium at https://bit.ly/noplasticgrass

The most recent letter to the board was submitted this past Monday by the National Center for Health Research.  https://www.center4research.org/nchr-letter-to-members-of-the-board-of-the-los-gatos-union-school-district-on-artificial-turf-and-playgrounds/

Let's make this a truly Happy Earth Week by joining together as a community to show support for keeping artificial turf fields (i.e. plastic fields) off ALL LGUSD campuses!
