It's been a while, but I'm pleased to be able to let you all know that last night, before a Lewisham Council planning committee, Investor Alliance Limited's application to build flats on Duncombe Hill Green was unanimously refused. Whilst it remains to be seen what the developer's next steps will be, the decision sets a strong precedent for protecting the space from any further applications for planning permission and any appeal against the refusal. To say we're delighted is an understatement!
Both this petition, with over 5000 signatories, and the 131 objections to the application sent in to the council, were material to the outcome, with the chair stating that the application had been put before the committee because of the "huge level of public interest".
Every single person who has supported this campaign has played a key part in achieving last night's outcome - the backing from the public has been incredible from day 1, when the fence was first spotted going up a year ago. So thank you, to each and every one of you. Together we proved that people power can definitely work as a force for good. Keep fighting for those green spaces. :)
Nicola
