We met with NParks and HDB yesterday and NParks claimed that it had received 40 feedback since the park opened last September. In general, the feedback was on sighting of dogs, barking and chasing. NO VIDEO EVIDENCE. NParks was unable to tell us how many of these feedback had any photo evidence of the dogs in action. There was a feedback saying a little kid fell because she was startled by the dogs, presumably by the barking. (Only strays barked? Could it not have been someone’s pet dog nearby?)
Is it justified to get the dogs removed simply based on these feedback? Of course not! NParks said that safety of public will always come before animal welfare. This shows we are not a first world country. Why do we even promote coexistence with wildlife when we want to get rid of the strays who lived there all their lives and humans took away their homes?
We asked for NParks to put up surveillance cameras for the next 1-2 weeks and signages to inform public about the presence of the dogs. We stood firm and objected to NParks’ insistence on placing a trap to ‘condition the dogs’ in case trapping is needed. Placing a trap is as good as passing a sentence. A suspect is innocent until proven guilty. That’s how the judicial system here works.
We are Singapore! If we claim to be a first world country, then let’s be a real first world country. The children recite the pledge that talks about equality and living harmony. Let’s put that into action. Let’s stop the self-entitled people who think that they can remove the dogs and possibly take away their lives by submitting such feedback. Why should feedback without evidence be even considered when passing a sentence?
RESIDENTS OF BIDADARI, it’s time for you to act now to help the innocent dogs. We do not have much time. Let NParks know that tye dogs do not cause any danger and must be allowed to remain in their homes to live out their lives. They do not have many years left. Send in evidence that the dogs are not aggressive, contrary to what the 40 feedback providers alleged.
