Here's a clip of Yanis Varoufakis talking absolute sense on BBC Question Time last night about the catastrophic under-investment in infrastructure, research & development, and education that has been going on in the UK during the ruinous austerity era, and the need for a National Investment Bank.
The reason that austerity-driven under-investment in infrastructure, R&D, and education is so terribly damaging to the nation is that failure to invest in these areas erodes the future economic potential of the UK and ensures we get left behind in the global economic race by the major economies that invest more than we do (which is all of them).
Aside from the issues Varoufakis raised, it's also interesting to note how the Tory-sympathising host David Dimbleby interrupts him 4 times in the space of just 2 minutes. Once to side-track him away from his intended point by insisting he play "the blame game" rather than outline his solution, then three times more to supposedly hurry him up, despite being the one responsible for sidetracking him in the first place!
