The beauty of a forest lies in its bustling biodiversity, its expanse, its rivers, its freshness, its greenery, its peace, and its tranquillity. The rejuvenation and recreation an unperturbed forest provides far exceeds any man-made spas & resorts.

Our city life is full of chaos, noise, traffic, anxiety & stress. Mumbai is the world's most fortunate city that harbours a tranquil forest right in its centre. It takes just a few minutes for a Mumbaikar to experience the peaceful bliss of a forest that is home to 76 species of birds, 86 species of butterflies, 13 species of amphibians, 38 different types of reptiles, 19 spider species, 34 different types of wildflowers, 86 species of trees. There are about 290 species of wildlife in Aarey Forest including 5 such species of animals which feature in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). These vulnerable animals include leopards, Rusty-spotted cats, Sambar deer, Alexandrine Parakeet and Red-wattled Lapwing.

This rich biodiversity is set to be disturbed by the government which is planning to extend another city into the forest with its mega makeover plan. 

The government’s objective is to monetise the land parcels in Aarey Colony and also develop it as a tourism spot. The forest land will be analyzed for potential projects.  

In other words, the forest will be open to more concretisation. This process of destruction of the entire area of 1,125 acres is labelled as 'revamping' and 'growth' of the forest. The government is making people believe that the concretisation of forests will make the city happier & prosperous. 

The process of destruction started with the Metro-3 car shed. Soon slum rehabilitation, zoo and many 'development' projects are going to rampage the only surviving green lungs that is helping fight extreme heat & pollution in one of the world's most polluted cities.  

We hope sanity, wisdom and conscience prevail within the government and they leave Aarey forest undisturbed.
