In its 6th week, the protest to protect the green lungs of Mumbai seems getting bigger and stronger.

On 9th August, Adivasi Communities of Aarey are organizing a rally in protest against upcoming Metro car shed in aarey.

Aarey has 27 Adivasi hamlets. Many projects in the past including Metro 3 Car Depot project resulted into illegal eviction of the Adivasi Families from their hamlets.

Adivasi Communities fear that this station is planned to bring more real estate and commercial projects in Aarey in future. This is why Government wants to relocate the Adivasi Families from their hamlets.

In 2018 a petition was filed in Mumbai High Court against this illegal eviction by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation. One Adivasi petitioner passed away while awaiting justice.

Till date different Adivasi hamlets are receiving eviction notices under SRA projects.

The rally starts at 12 pm at Aarey Market near Unit 5. The rally though organized by adivasi communities welcomes participation from everyone.
