Dear Supporters and Friends of Clean Up Kenya, Our journey to empower the dream of a litter-free Kenya began with humble steps six months ago. When we began, we did not know how this would play out despite our best efforts to develop a plan and strategy. We knew from the beginning that our work was cut out. Solving Kenya's sanitation crisis is not something that can be done overnight. It requires great commitment from individuals, communities and policy makers. We have just reached a new milestone in our work this festive season. We have now reached 800,000 persons with our Clean Up Kenya message. Using a limited budget, we have run a paperless campaign through social media encouraging everyone to sign the Clean Up Kenya Petition. We have primarily used Facebook and Whatsapp to send out weekly messages. The response has been great. We have had lively conversations on these platforms from Kenyans and friends of Kenya. We have been encouraged by these engagements. We reached 2000 likes today on Facebook. Despite these developments, we still see that many people are yet to sign our petition. This reminds us how our work is cut out. We will continue to run these campaigns. However beginning 2016, we will start to implement some public awareness programs involving primary schools as well as conduct public forums in select cities and towns across Kenya. These programs will continue to contribute to fostering conversations about Kenya’s litter crisis. We are implementing these as part of our strategic three-step model of education (public awareness), collaborations and policy intervention. While we would like to do more, we cannot run more than we have strength. Thus, until we have figured out the issue of resources, we will continue to take baby steps. We continue to invite you to spread our message to your friends and family, inviting them to add their voice to this great cause. I have enjoyed reading your messages of why you signed our petition and with that am gladly reminded that the dream of a litter-free Kenya is indeed alive. Have a prosperous 2016. You can drop me an email at info@cleanupkenya.org if you have some specific suggestions. With thanks, Betterman Simidi Musasia, Founder, Clean Up Kenya
