The report says: “It is estimated that every year, around 88 million tonnes of food are wasted in the EU, a number which is expected to rise to approximately 126 million tonnes by 2020 if no immediate action is taken.” The auditors said that the absence of fixed targets to reduce the amount of waste in the system has led to little action being taken to improve the situation, and that farm level food waste is especially important to target.
