Help Small Business & Save Forest Hills Parking Spots

Transportation Alternatives are lobbying for bike lanes to be put in along Queens Blvd from the cross street of Yellowstone Blvd to Union Turnpike in Forest Hills, Queens, New York. This will remove several hundred parking spaces catering to small businesses. Forest Hills businesses are struggling to stay in business as it is, as more and more consumers are shopping online. Steep rents that are continually increasing make it harder and harder to stay open and to be able to offer the necessary services and shopping experience that our community needs. Without neighborhood stores the Forest Hills community will surely decline and the community feeling will be lost. Not to mention the jobs that will also be lost.
Transportation Alternatives needs to find "alternative" solutions for bike riders. The newly installed bike lanes that run from Queens Blvd starting at the cross street of Yellowstone Blvd west towards Rego Park and Manhattan create dangerous driving conditions and it has been noted that only a small handful of bike riders use the lanes throughout the day. The businesses located in this area are suffering financial losses and customers are shopping elsewhere. These lanes cannot expand eastward into Forest Hills and compromise the heartbeat of the Forest Hills neighborhood that are our small businesses. We need signatures and support to show that the people of Forest Hills and beyond want to keep the neighborhood vital and encourage shoppers and visitors alike to continue coming here to enjoy the shops, restaurants, Forest Hills Stadium, the Westside Tennis Club, movie theater, gyms, salons, medical offices, schools, professional offices and places of worship that the Forest Hills community provides. Without parking where will our neighborhood be? Please sign on and contact our local community leaders and politicians to let them know that you do not want more barely used bike lanes in Forest Hills.
I am reaching out to you firstly as a life long resident of Forest Hills, next as a former business owner and now as the president of the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce. Our community is a unique blend of beautiful homes, apartments and businesses with a rich history. Forest Hills is often called "a garden in the city". Let's keep it that way and keep businesses up and running!
