Hört auf uns zu instrumentalisieren!

 

Queere und feministische Aktivist_innen aus dem Nahen Osten und ihre Verbündeten rufen den Lesben- und Schwulenverband in Deutschland (LSVD) und das schwule Anti-Gewalt Projekt MANEO dazu auf, ihre Unterstützung für die Demonstration gegen den Al-Quds-Tag zurückzuziehen.

 

Als queere Aktivisten aus verschiedenen Ländern des Nahen Osten, einschließlich dem Iran, Palästina, Ägypten, dem Libanon, der Türkei und Kurdistan - wie auch unsere Verbündeten in der ganzen Welt , sind wir erschüttert zu erfahren, dass der Berliner Flügel des LSVD und MANEO an der Demonstration gegen den Al-Quds-Tag teilnehmen werden – einer Demonstration, die von militaristischen, rechten, und anti-palästinensischen Organisationen ausgerichtet wird.

 

Wir haben uns daran gewöhnt, dass diverse repressive Regime in unserer Region den gerechten, palästinensischen Kampf für Befreiung von Apartheid und Besatzung dazu benutzen, um von der eigenen katastrophalen Politik abzulenken. Die Al-Quds-Demonstration, die hier alljährlich in Berlin von Unterstützern des iranischen Regimes organisiert wird, ist Teil dieser traurigen Tradition. Wir brauchen keine leeren Reden von der „Befreiung Jerusalems“: Sie sind nichts als ein zynischer Schachzug einer Regierung, die selber religiöse Minderheiten, Queere und Frauen verfolgt und die das syrische Regime, das in den letzten Jahren massenhaft Palästinenser ermordete und verhungern ließ, militärisch unterstützt. Für uns ist die Solidarität mit dem palästinensischen Volk Teil eines universalen Kampfes für Freiheit in der gesamten Region, für alle Geschlechter und Ethnien – und kein Anliegen, das zum Verdecken schrecklichster Verbrechen ausgenutzt werden darf.

 

Trotz unserer Opposition gegen die Al-Quds-Demonstration sehen wir auch in der Gegendemonstration eine Veranstaltung, die ähnlichen Schemata folgt: der gerechte Kampf von LGBTQs wird instrumentalisiert, um von den Verbrechen der Besatzung abzulenken und die israelische Apartheid auf zynische Art und Weise zu „pinkwashen“. Die Gegendemonstration, die sich angeblich gegen Homophobie und Antisemitismus richtet, wird mehrheitlich von Organisationen getragen, die in der Vergangenheit die israelischen Massaker in Gaza und dem Libanon unterstützt haben. Einige von ihnen befürworten klar die Argumentationen rechter und rassistische Politiker in Israel und den USA, die oftmals sowohl gegen die Rechte von Queeren als auch gegen Menschenrechte gewirkt haben. So wird diese Demonstration beispielsweise von der Junge Union, dem Jugendverband der CDU, unterstützt – einer Partei, die die legale und soziale Gleichstellung von LGBTQs in Deutschland kategorisch ablehnt und blockiert. Dies zeigt, wie zynisch diese angebliche Demonstration gegen Homophobie tatsächlich ist.

 

Die Beteiligung des LSVD und von MANEO an dieser Demonstration ist auch für queere Aktivisten aus dem gesamten Nahen Osten ein Schlag ins Gesicht. Den Kampf für sexuelle Befreiung mit Besatzung und Krieg zu verbinden, ist nicht nur unmoralisch, sondern bedroht auch unseren Einsatz für sozialen Wandel in den Gesellschaften, in denen wir aufgewachsen sind. Die Aussage des Direktors des LSVD, für ein „friedliches Miteinander mit Israel- und Regenbogenflaggen“ demonstrieren zu wollen, ist unglaublich furchtbar in Anbetracht des Massakers an 2300 Palästinensern in Gaza vor genau einem Jahr im Namen dieser gleichen Flagge. Auch die systematische Erpressung palästinensischer LGBTQs durch die israelischen Geheimdienste, die kürzlich bekannt wurde, deckt die Lüge in Israels „Schwulenrechte-Agenda“ auf.

 

Wir rufen Euch daher auf, eure Unterstützung für diese Demonstration sofort zurückzuziehen. Informiert Euch über die Situation von LGBTQs im Nahen Osten und arbeitet mit Organisationen, die in der Region aktiv sind zusammen, anstatt schlecht durchdachte Aussagen zu machen, die einen beharrlichen Missachter von Menschenrechten wie den Staat Israel unterstützen.

Stop Instrumentalizing Us!

Queer activists from the Middle East and their allies call on the LSVD and MANEO to withdraw from the counter-demonstration of Al-Quds-Tag.

As queer and feminist activists from different countries around the Middle East, including Iran, Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Kurdistan-- and our allies all over the world--  we are shocked to discover that the Berlin Chapter of the German gay and lesbian association LSVD and the gay anti-violence project MANEO will participate in the “No Al-Quds Tag” demonstration organized by a coalition of militarist, right-wing and anti-Palestinian organizations.

We are accustomed to seeing different repressive regimes in our region instrumentalize the just cause of the Palestinian struggle for liberation from apartheid and occupation as an issue to distract from their own catastrophic politics. The Al-Quds demonstration, organized here in Berlin by supporters of the Iranian regime every year, stands within this sad tradition. We do not need hypocrisy about the liberation of Jerusalem, coming from a state which persecutes religious minorities, queers and women and which militarily supports the Syrian regime, itself guilty of killing and starving Palestinians in a mass scale. For us, solidarity with the Palestinian people is a part of a universal fight for freedom in the whole region, for all genders and ethnicities, and not a plight to be used to cover up the most heinous crimes.

Our opposition to the “Al-Quds Rally” notwithstanding, we see the counter-demonstration, organized by right-wing Zionist organizations, as moving in similar lines, instrumentalizing the just cause of LGBTQ liberation to distract from the crimes of the occupation and to cynically pinkwash Israeli apartheid. Most of the organizations calling for this counter-demonstration, which supposedly objects to homophobia and anti-Semitism, have called for demonstrations in support of the Israeli massacres in Gaza and Lebanon in the past. Some are in clear support of right-wing and racist politicians in Israel and the USA who have often opposed queer rights and human rights. The support for the demonstration by the Junge Union, the youth organization of the CDU who steadfastly block legal and social improvements for LGBTQIs in Germany, shows just how cynical this supposed demonstration against homophobia really is.

The participation of LSVD and MANEO in this demonstration is a slap in the face to queer activists from all over the Middle East. Aligning the struggle for sexual liberation with occupation and war is not just immoral but also threatens our efforts for social change in the societies in which we grew up. The statement by the director of the LSVD, that they will demonstrate for “peaceful coexistence with Israeli and Rainbow flags”, is an incredibly horrifying statement taking into account the massacre of 2.300 Palestinians in Gaza exactly one year ago under the same flag. Also the systematic extortion of Palestinian LGBTQs by the Israeli secret services, which recently became public knowledge, gives the lie to Israel’s  gay rights agenda. 

We call on you, therefore, to immediately withdraw your support for the demonstration, and we advise you to inform yourselves about the situation of LGBTQ in the Middle East by reaching out to and working with organizations active in the region before making ill-conceived statements in support of a persistent human rights violator such as the state of Israel.
