Legalization of Marijuana in the State of Indiana

The Issue

The benefits of marijuana use have been known for the past few hundred years, and it is puzzling why the state of Indiana - as well as the rest of the country - has not legalized this helpful drug for recreational use. This drug was once sold in pharmacies across the country until prejudice-fueled false propaganda was spread against the drug following the Mexican Revolution. Marijuana has been known to be less addictive and harmful for your body as alcohol and tobacco products, proving to be safer for public consumption. Other states have been reaping the benefits of taxation from this product, creating millions of dollars in revenue for their governments each year. This revenue can help create more funding for education, improving infrastructure, and other social services. As the fastest growing industry in the country, many more jobs can be created within the state of Indiana as well. With Indiana - mostly stemming from the city of Indianapolis - having a significantly high crime rate, recreational marijuana has proven to help reduce this in states where it is legal. To legalize cannabis will not only do justice to a drug that was wrongfully made illegal to begin with, but it will also create a better environment for the citizens of the state of Indiana.
