Thank You to everyone who has signed this partition and shared it with like-minded family and friends - We have now surpassed 25,000 Signatures!

A bit of history on the Great Sandy Marine Park:-

The GSMP was Legislated in 2006 with the ANOMALY of a "Red-Cross Hatched" YELLOW CONSERVATION ZONE known as the "Designated Great Sandy Area ( GSR ) " - The GSMP IS THE ONLY MARINE PARK IN THE COUNTRY to ALLOW COMMERCIAL NETTING THROUGHOUT YELLOW CONSERVATION PARK ZONES under the RED-CROSS HATCHING!

  • The Mid-term review was due to be completed in 2012 - BUT it WAS NOT DELIVERED! The environment ministers during this year were - Vicky Darling and Jeff Seeney.
  • The Full-Term Review was due in 2016 - BUT WAS NOT DELIVERED
The extension for the review to be completed in 2017 - WAS NOT DELIVERED! The environment ministers during this period included - Andrew Powell and Steven Miles.
  • GSMP was Re-Instated in its current form in 2018 - with PROMISE for the full-term review to be completed by 2018 ........ BUT NOT DELIVERED! The environment ministers during this period included Steven Miles and Leeanne Enoch.
  • On the 23rd of September 2022 - The DRAFT re-zoning plan was finally released! The environment minister during this period was Meaghan Scanlon.
  • 30th of May 2023 - STILL NO FINAL DECISION RIS and associated maps, and we have a NEW environment minister - Leanne Linard.

The marine environment and recreational fishing, and new tourism opportunities will greatly benefit from the REMOVAL of the Red Cross-Hatched "Designated Great Sandy Area," - which will finally STOP commercial large mesh netting throughout the Yellow Conservation Park Zones!

The FCFA has called for some minor changes to allow recreational fishing in some key areas, and know that this petition has assisted in getting the review of the Great Sandy Marine Park to this stage.

Please keep the signatures coming and share this petition with all your like-minded family, friends and contacts - as we have now surpassed 25,000 signatures here and have approx. Five thousand signed locally on paper as well.

The Final Decision RIS and associated maps MUST BE released this year and legislated before the 1st of February 2024 - Or we will lose another year of natural barramundi recruitment ....

Thanks
