What WILL be Affected by the DRAFT re-zoning Plan Release in relation to REMOVING the Designated Great Sandy Area – red-cross hatching

To clarify what WILL BE affected by this PROPOSED DRAFT plan for the Great Sandy Marine Park and debunk some of the propaganda suggesting the non-fishing general public will not have access to fresh fish.

NOTE: "Locally Caught" - broadly suggests it has to have been caught within Australian waters - It Does NOT necessarily mean it was actually caught in the region or area you are purchasing it in. Also, "Fresh" suggests it should not have been frozen at ANY stage prior to you purchasing it.

REMOVING the Designated Great Sandy Area (Red Cross Hatching), which currently allows commercial gill nets and ring nets in Conservation (Yellow) zones at Baffle Creek, Elliot River, Burrum River and its tributaries, Great Sandy Strait, and Tin Can Bay WILL NOT AFFECT: -

• Trawler fishing - Which mostly ALL occurs outside of the Great Sandy Designated Area (with the exception of a couple of beam trawl operators)
• Prawns – Otter Trawling ALL occurs outside of the Great Sandy Designated Area (with the exception of a couple of beam trawl operators & some stripe nets in the Mary River)
• Scallops & bugs - Which ALL occurs outside of the Great Sandy Designated Area
• Spanner crabs – which are harvested outside of the Great Sandy Area
• Fish and prawns farmed commercially in Queensland
• Commercial Line Fishing IE: Mackerel, trout etc
• Sustainably aquaculture, which currently supplies up to thirty times the production of barramundi alone when compared to the East Coast wild capture fishery

IT WILL AFFECT & REMOVE Commercial Gill Nets and ring nets!
