Tune in to OPB's Think Out Loud today at noon for a discussion about the petition with League of American Bicyclists President, Andy Clarke: http://opb.org/radio/programs/thinkoutloud/ Thanks to you and your friends we've collected close to 500 signatures in under 2 days! The original authors of this petition couldn't have anticipated this much passionate support. You're amazing! Thank you! You've made it clear: hundreds of people feel the time is ripe for getting real about bicycling in Portland. Yet the League says they won't revisit Portland's ranking until 2017. Right now, families in Portland face unsafe streets and are harassed when they ride bikes. Right now, crashes are going unreported by Police and unrecognized by the City. Right now, instead of moving forward with the Bicycle Master Plan, our City has taken extraordinary steps to ban bicycles in more places, both from parks and from streets that are being rebuilt and held up as model for other cities. Why wait? Let's #downgradePortland now so we can get to the hard work it'll take to make our City great. In case you missed it, here's more coverage of your efforts on BikePortland: http://bikeportland.org/2015/04/13/petition-launched-strip-portland-platinum-bike-friendly-status-139289 And here's what the Oregonian had to say: http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2015/04/petition_seeks_to_downgrade_po.html Bicycling Magazine has taken notice too: http://www.bicycling.com/news/featured-stories/portland-cyclists-want-their-platinum-status-revoked A huge thank-you goes to everyone who's signed the petition. We'll keep these updates to a minimum so we don't spam your inbox, but we want to say how much we appreciate all the support, passion, and love for Portland hundreds of you have brought to this effort.
