We view LB 791, which was introduced on Governor Ricketts' behalf, as an effort to weaken our association - the very people who are PROTECTING and SERVING Nebraska citizens. LB 791 will remove 61 Sergeants from the State Law Enforcement Bargaining Unit (SLEBC) and will impact nearly 400 Troopers total. This will prohibit Sergeants from known pay increases as outlined currently by the SLEBC contract. It will also increase costs of health insurance for both the Sergeants and the state, reduce health insurance benefits, end longevity and shift differential pay, end additional life insurance benefits, allow possible reassignment of location, among many other negative impacts on the already low morale. Upon his first run for governor, Governor Pete Ricketts promised our association that he would not support any legislative efforts to restrict or weaken our bargaining rights. This bill weakens our bargaining rights and much more. This not only negatively impacts our members, but it also impacts their families, and you as a tax paying citizen. We ask that you support your state law enforcement - the boots on the ground - who daily risk their lives for the safety of citizens. Let these Sergeants continue to do the job they took an oath to do - without the additional stressors this bill causes. The simple and most effective answer is to require the internal affairs process be completed by a lieutenant. This solution would remove any unsubstantiated perceived bias by Sergeants on the internal affairs process.
