Today something momentous happened & I wish to share it with you...

Dark Brown Woman ...
Bangalore, India

Aug 25, 2018 —

200 and counting signatures! Many thanks to each one of you who support this petition.

We need inclusivity and diversity more than ever...and every signature definitely counts!

I am also receiving support from these amazing allies worth mentioning - DarkisBeautiful, WomenofWorth, twdgsydney, TheColo(u)rismProject, WomensWeb, ginadixit & Changemakers. Other such allies are connecting to offer their support as well, from near and far. Special thanks to DarkandDusky who has been of immense help!

One may think there are bigger issues we are grappling with in this country and this campaign is a tiny one compared. I still initiated it with the hope that it may make a tiny difference, a little less prejudice around us and someone somewhere has a little more confidence.

My first petition to Tanishq resulted in a win, again, thanks to supporters. My campaign doesn’t end there and to stay true to the cause as an Anti-Colourism Advocate I have now started this second one to Lakme.

Today something momentous happened and I wish to share this with all of you.

I started this campaign because of this little person, my princess, who until recently thinks fair is better and she is just 4 years old. She even believes all princesses are meant to be white.

I have been sharing bits of this campaign with her hoping that she may understand some of it. I showed her the article yesterday.

Today morning she remarked  – “I am brown like you. I love brown”.

I am not sure of the mileage, reach and impact my campaign will bring about…but I do know now that it has brought about a change in my little one. This is my personal accomplishment, a big one. I doubt, Dark Brown Woman would have, if she hadn’t started this campaign.
