Save Our School!
The Issue
The City of Lake Worth Building/Zoning Code department is demanding that Academy for Positive Learning remove all of the portable classrooms within the next few weeks. They stated that neighborhood businesses have been complaining about the appearance (most likely the marijuana dispensary which did not appreciate us publicly fighting to keep them from opening directly across the street from the school). We are devastated by this news because without the portable classrooms, we will have to cut our enrollment in half for the upcoming year. We made a proposal to the city for one more year and they declined it. It is too late to find a new location in this short amount of time.
Academy for Positive Learning is a Title I school and the only A/B rated school in the city. The students love their school. They work hard in rigorous academics and enjoy exciting field trips, unique activities, and musical theater. The students get the opportunity to travel to other countries to help those in need. Student council and safety patrol members step up and step out in the community to promote love, acceptance, and their anti-bullying campaigns. These kids are special and they deserve the best. A4PL is their second home, sometimes even their first home. Why is it the appearance of the school more important than what’s happening inside?
We are asking that all parents, students, teachers, community members, and others who are passionate about the education of low-income populations take a stand with us against this horrifying action. Please sign to show your support of A4PL being able to keep the portable classrooms for one more year.
