Sorry for the lack of an update after the last board meeting. Here is the latest... As many people stated, there was no new information at the meeting. Dr. Musick told the board he was working on a couple different solutions based on the instructional time discussions being held at the Elementary Schools. He said he would provide another update on the 27th. We met with Dr. Musick this last week and it looks as though the High School and Middle School will be moved to their desired start times of 8:25 and 9am. There has been movement later on the Elementary School times as well, but still earlier than 8:30am. There is honestly no good argument for this, considering that our solution is the same cost or less and provides for all of the district needs. We have proposed a very low cost solution to the district that will put the Elementary kids at 8:30am. This is completely possible and we just need them to understand that this plan will work for ALL students. Even a 15 minute difference in the morning is important! As of our last meeting, the strings program will likely be after school. This is something the district feels strongly about. Our plan allows for strings either before or after school, but at this point it looks as though the before school option is not something the district wants. Sorry to those this will impact! None of this information has been voted on yet by the board. We are just sharing the latest information we have and what we are continuing to work on with the district. If you are in favor of an 8:30 start time- please sign, forward, share etc by this Friday, February 24th. We have found a way to make this time work without impacting the other schools start time, however administration is pushing for earlier than 8:30am. We need to have a strong show of support for the 8:30am time and comments about why that time is significant. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! The LO School Board needs to hear from you! Thank you!
