Hello everyone! We have been off the radar for a while, so apologies. Many of us are students, and have been stuck in the pointy end of semester. We are here to let you know, that in spite of our efforts, there has been little forthcoming from the university. We are solemnly hanging up our hiking boots. At least for now. As we reported 2 months ago, we were fortunate enough to have a meeting with Pete Green and Fiona Bird, but it was more an explanation of 'why things are as the are' than an open dialogue. It is disappointing to be waved away like this, but was wonderful to see such solidarity from the students nonetheless. Perhaps, if nothing else, this short campaign has taught us that when we reach out and protest, at least we find each other, and knowing that we are not alone in our disappointment is some small solace. From those of us graduating to those of you still studying: please keep fighting the good fight - participating in student feedback is important, and speaking up when you love or hate something begins to rattle cages. We like cage rattling. Remember, retaliation means you are being heard! Keep working hard. Thank your teachers. They were like us once, and it can be a thankless job at times. People like Susan and Alexei (and the whole AW Ecology Department, for that matter!) help shape us into mini-scientists we are, and inspire us to keep on plugging on for our planet.
