JOHNNY Depp was under 24-hour medical care after he returned to LA from the Gold Coast last year to seek treatment for an injury to his right hand, court documents reveal.
In a sworn affidavit lodged the day before her ‘doggate’ trial in Southport Magistrates Court, Depp’s wife, Amber Heard, said she returned from New York to Los Angeles on April 18, 2015, to find her husband under 24-hour watch.
Production sources at the time told the Bulletin Depp was undergoing “in-home rehab” treatment in LA under the watch of older sister, Christi Dembrowski, after injuring his right hand on the Gold Coast during a day off from work on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dean Men Tell No Tales.
While the film’s unit publicist, Michael Singer, from Jerry Bruckheimer Films, stressed at the time Depp had not injured his hand on set, Ms Heard wrote in her affidavit that Johnny had flown back to the US for surgery “after injuring his hand badly while working on the film”.
He was initially expected to return two weeks later but did not come back until April 21, 2015.
Depp reportedly failed to board several scheduled flights back to Australia in the week before he and Heard eventually flew into Australia with Pistol and Boo.
Heard’s affidavit says she was in the UK filming a movie until April 6.
She says “on or about” April 6, she travelled to New York to promote her role in another movie.
She says she did not return to LA until “on or about” April 18.
The affidavit said the pair left for Australia on April 19.
Heard and Depp were not seen together after he arrived in the US from Australia.
Heard, 30, was photographed with friends and co-stars, including James Franco and Christopher Walken, at the Tribeca Film Festival on the weekend the affidavit says Johnny was recovering from injuries under 24-hour medical watch.
