On July 24, 2021, people gathered at three animal shelters in Los Angeles County to demand the shelters fully open. Before Covid-19, the general public was allowed to access ALL Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control facilities without an appointment. Today, the general public is turned away when they show up to animal pounds. They are told to set an appointment which means on average they will not get to come back to the Animal Pound for another six days. Meanwhile, the Animal Pounds are killing hundreds of animals each month claiming there is LACK OF INTEREST in the animals. How do I know? I was turned away when I went to adopt Mimi several weeks ago. I was turned away again a week later when I arrived without an appointment only to learn EVERYONE is being turned away who simply shows up at the pound wanting to adopt. EVERYONE.
