Today, Kyoto Citizens submitted the Stop Ohi Petition signatures to Kyoto City’s Makoto Itose, Director, Global Environment Policy Office/Environment Policy Bureau, and, Masanori Kuwatani, Section Head of the Disaster Prevention Emergency Management Section. (Signatures to date: 4575 total.)
Kyoto City today would not commit to speaking up against Ohi nuclear power plant restart in spite of pleas worldwide. It however continues to stand firm in asking the Japanese government to gain the right to say yes/no to restart.
We pointed out that the city does not need to have a “right” but can speak up now against nuclear power plant restarts. We stated that so much is at stake: safety of Kyoto citizens, World Heritage and other cultural sites, the environment of Kyoto, safety of tourists, and Lake Biwa which is the largest lake in Japan.
This petition was also submitted today to Kyoto Prefecture.
