Objecting to Paid Parking in Ballito and Umhlali CBD

Objecting to Paid Parking in Ballito and Umhlali CBD

The Issue

On the 16th of October 2017, Mayor Ricardo Mthembu, issued a statement  confirming  that the Kwadukuza Municipality will be implementing a paid parking system for all municipal designated parking pays in the KWADUKUZA CBD areas, this includes Stanger, Ballito, Shakaskraal, Umhlali.  The model will be implemented from 1 November 2017 and the tariff is R 6.00 per hour. For many people , this model is firstly completely unrealistic as it becomes a costly exercise but it will also result in many restuarants and small businesses losing  valuable traffic. The average admin staff member at an office will be paying circa R 1000 per month for parking. The statement from the Mayor eludes to the needs for job creation and an effective and safe parking system, which is why the model was designed and implemented.

We firmly believe that the model did not take into the account the need for long term parking and concessions for large parts of the Ballito and Umhlali CBD, and the fact that there was no public participation is highly concerning.  We are hoping to get as many signatures and will then present this petition to the DA Chairperson for the Ilembe Constituency, who will submit our objections.

Please sign this petition if you are against paid parking.
