Well, it looks like my petition has more use! As of today, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are not able to be purchased digitally, whether it be Snake Eater 3D, the GOG.com port of Substance, or the HD Collection in any capacity. The reason Konami gave for their sudden removal is because they need to renew the license on historical footage used in-game such as Snake Eater using real footage of John F. Kennedy speeches.

What were once the most accessible games in the series can now only be sold physically until who-knows-when. Not only that, but Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake cannot be purchased despite not using any of the archival footage, since it can only be obtained in the HD Collection now. This underlines the importance of Konami preserving the iconic series with newer (and hopefully physical) re-releasing of their iconic series. To minimize the impact this has on their consumers, it is imperative that they begin preserving the series for all platforms, physically and digitally. 

While MGS2&3 may be brought back to digital storefronts in the future, please keep campaigning to create context for more accessible games and to have Konami not control this content. Over and out.
