Facts

1. For fifty years and running the Kirkwood School District has shown little to no interest in the issue of what has proven to be a huge culture of sexual abuse of children by faculty and staff in its schools.
Due to this fact,
2. There have been thousands of incidents of sexual abuse of children during these decades. Most were not reported as is absolutely typical of sexual abuse and all the more so of sexual abuse of children by teachers or authorities.
3. Perpetrators of sexual abuse are typically serial perpetrators. One perpetrator with easy access to children may have as many as 100 victims over several years time. Some are able to abuse even more. Easy access to children includes positions as teachers, coaches, counselors, administrative staff in authority positions over children, priests, pastors, children's camp directors, camp counselors, etc.
4. 30 perpetrators of sexual abuse, all teachers or staff in Kirkwood schools, were named by the recent investigation done by Encompass Resources. Each of these persons was shielded by various administrations throughout these years. Some of these perpetrators were administrators. Principals. One of these perpetrators is currently a principal at KHS.
5. The perpetrators are not being held accountable and were not held accountable.
6. Their superiors participated in effective cover ups by not reporting these crimes to the appropriate authorities. Their superiors became complicit, in this manner, with further abuse and with potentially obstructing justice.
7. Several of these sexual abusers are among the best known most lauded teachers and administrators in Kirkwood's history. Their histories of sexual abuse, of taking advantage of the cover of their positions and reputation and sexually abusing students under their care, is largely untold except by a few brave survivors who have been stepping forward and telling the truth.
8. The administration, the Superintendent and the School Board are stonewalling, circling their wagons, issuing statements attempting to promote the idea that they are very concerned and have done all possible to deal with what is an epic example of sexual abuse of students by faculty in a K-12 district...one of the largest revealed examples in US history, in fact. Collectively they are not denouncing the perpetrators, are not revealing all the information they have, files have been disappeared on various persons, they are not talking with the survivors let alone apologizing to them in any significant manner and, as I mentioned, they tolerate known sexual abusers from this list to this day...two of the 30 still employed in the District.
9. Children, consequently, are still at risk of sexual abuse by these or by other persons who many not yet have been determined to be sexually abusing children. There may be a lull as this "storm" blows over, but the culture of abuse has not been eradicated, particularly given that abusers remain in positions and even high positions.
10. The School District will not change itself and will not eradicate this systemic sexual abuse. They have proven themselves far more interested in protecting their own reputations and that of the school, their careerism overrides their concern about the well-being of children, and/or, many simply do not have the backbone to stand up and tell the truth according to what so many know.
Given these facts, and I sincerely ask anyone to convince me I am wrong on any, what are we going to do? The children, if they had a clue what was going on....would probably want to believe that we rose up to protect them.
