77% of pet owners believe their work productivity is affected by pet illness, and 55% would lie to stay home to care for their pets.

Too many animals suffering from health problems, often due to breeding and rearing conditions, are sold on internet sites like Kijiji, perpetuating veterinary costs to new pet owners, and inflicting unnecessary emotional and financial stress on them.

While pet food, animal welfare, the import and export of pets, veterinary services, and pet insurance are all subject to regulation, the primary source of Canadian family companions —breeders — remains largely unregulated.

Unregulated breeding practices contribute to pet health issues that disrupt owners' lives and work.

It's time for Canadian elected officials to recognize and prioritize their significance.

Pass it on.
