Following the answer from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), stating that a public awareness campaign to educate Canadians on how to responsibly buy dogs and cats would likely be better placed with the provinces and territories or organizations such as the Humane Society International, Humane Canada, the Canadian Kennel Club, and/or the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, I have reached out to Humane Society International, Humane Canada, the Canadian Kennel Club, and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association to comment on CFIA's recommendation.

Here is what the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association responded:

"We have reviewed and continue to monitor this issue and will continue to address the concern through our various networks and professional affiliations. At this time, we are in discussions with a major stakeholder and are monitoring the impact of their approach while we continue to include this issue in our growing list of priorities."

Stay tuned for comments from Humane Society International, Humane Canada, and the Canadian Kennel Club.
