Another horrible story of an irresponsible breeder that has scammed a family in Ontario!
Over the past nine years, the numerous media stories of sick puppies and kittens sold on Kijiji and the testimonials of disappointed Kijiji users demonstrate that too many buyers continue to be cheated by unscrupulous breeders on classified sites like Kijiji while too many animals suffering from health problems, often due to breeding and rearing conditions, are sold on these sites, perpetuating veterinary costs to new owners, and inflicting unnecessary emotional and financial stress on them.
Classified sites are unable to distinguish registered breeders from breeders who, without regard to animal welfare and the buyer, profit from the sale of animals.
Online marketplaces Used.ca, OfferUp, BuySellTrade, letgoCanada, Craigslist and Facebook prohibit the sale of animals on their sites. “Websites like ours are not qualified or capable of regulating the breeding of pets," said the President of Used.ca. Banning the sale of animals in these online marketplaces represents these companies’ commitment to improving animal welfare and stops sellers like these from easily scamming consumers.
For the past nine years now, we have been hoping that Kijiji would care about animal welfare and be responsible enough to protect its users. 448,000 signers are requesting that Kijiji Canada stop the sale of animals on its site, today!
