Looking at Kijiji’s newly revamped listing menu, you would think that now they only offer pets for rehoming. But you are wrong. Kijiji is still allowing breeders to sell pets on their site. Classified sites like Kijiji are unable to distinguish between reputable and certified breeders and those simply profiting from the sale of animals, without regard to their welfare. Moreover, too many users are misled by unethical animal breeders on classified sites and too many animals with health problems, often because of the conditions under which they are raised and bred, are sold on these sites. Classifieds sites Used.ca, BuySellTrade.ca and Craigslist no longer allow profiting from the commercial sale of animals. France regulated the commercial sale of animals on their classified sites and there is presently a petition presented at the Quebec National Assembly to regulate such sales too. Thousands of healthy animals are waiting for adoption in Canadian animal shelters and rescue groups. Thousands of healthy animals are euthanized in Canadian animal shelters and rescue groups. Kijiji can put a stop to this vicious cycle. Kijiji can easily sell only animals sourced from registered shelters and animal rescue organizations and exclude commercial breeders from their site. 120,270 people, 7 public figures and 31 animal welfare organizations support this campaign. Kijiji, you can do better than this.
