CONSIDERING THAT Bill 54 recognizes animals as sentient beings, animals should therefore not be sold as objects via classified ads; CONSIDERING THAT classified sites are unable to distinguish between reputable and certified breeders and those simply profiting from the sale of animals, without regard to their welfare; CONSIDERING THAT classifieds sites Used.ca, BuySellTrade.ca and Craigslist no longer allow profiting from the commercial sale of animals; CONSIDERING THAT France regulated the commercial sale of animals on classified sites, that 10 cities in Canada, including Town of Mount-Royal and Hudson in Québec, banned the commercial sale of animals on their territories, while more than 40 pet stores in Québec pledged not to sell puppies; CONSIDERING THAT too many users are misled by unethical animal breeders on classified sites and too many animals with health problems, often because of the conditions under which they are raised and bred, are sold on these sites; CONSIDERING THAT thousands of healthy animals are waiting for adoption in Québec animal shelters and rescue groups; All Quebecers are invited to sign and share this new petition asking the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to permit online classifieds sites to sell only animals sourced from registered shelters and animal rescue organizations, to exclude commercial breeders, and to help families carefully rehome their pets to ensure their future well-being.
