Do you know how many bananas are thrown out everyday in Australia, due to cosmetic standards from supermarkets? (Woolworths, Coles etc.) Millions! Cosmetic standards are a strict rule from big supermarkets, about how a certain fruit or vegetable needs to look like, in order for it to be able to be sold. All the bananas that have been thrown away, are going to landfill because of their size, appearance or length. Can you imagine waiting nine months for bananas to start growing and then having to chuck them out, because of their strict supermarket rules? About 800,000 bananas are thrown out a year. Some of the big supermarkets throw away food that are still edible or don't have anything wrong with it.

Approximately:
-2,192 bananas are thrown out every day.

-66,667 bananas are wasted every month.

-800,000 bananas are thrown out each year.

-2,920,000,000 bananas get wasted every decade (10 years)
