On February 26, 2020, the Board of Supervisors (Board) directed staff to amend the County of San Diego’s Board Policy F-45, Pesticide Use Reduction, to prohibit the use of glyphosate-based products and to prioritize the use of organic alternatives when conducting vegetation management on all County owned, maintained, and leased property.
 
On August 5, 2020 the County of San Diego’s Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures (AWM) returned with options for revising the board policy for the Board’s consideration. The Board selected an option to contract with the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) and implement a pilot project utilizing organic herbicides at County-owned and maintained properties, and compile data and write a report detailing costs, effectiveness, frequency of applications and other applicable data.
