Re: Memorandum No. 9 - Child Care Program
Kettering School District Child Care Program parents were recently informed that after this school year ends the school district will no longer manage the child care program. The school district has negotiated with the YMCA to supplement the current services provided by the district at an increased cost to parents next year. Cost increases vary, but for many parents the cost will increase on average two to four times the current monthly rates for service. I have two main concerns with the changes. The first is the financial hardship many families will face trying to meet the cost of the new program. The second concern is the most important. It is the safety of the students that will be left unattended if families are unable to participate in the program due to the increase. As a parent of students that attend Kettering Schools I attended the Board Meeting for the school district on March 14th, 2017. The board heard concerns from parents and staff related to the program. During the conversation a board member stated "that currently there is no contract with the YMCA". The board was receptive to feedback and there is opportunity for feedback between parents and the district. I am asking all Kettering School District parents to sign and share this petition in order to continue to request that the school district keep the current program in place and discontinue discussions with the YMCA.
